Waterbending
Waterbending
Said to be the element of change, Water is more accurately the element of adaptation. Versatility is its greatest strength. It may be the most circumstancial element of all considering how radically the availability of water changes from place to place, but a good waterbender will make the best of a bad situation with their quick wit and resourcefulness, pulling water out of unexpected places like plant life and even the atmosphere itself (albeit in much smaller quantities). For a true master, a tiny amount of water is often all they need to turn the tide of battle.
While other elements have a very solid division between offense and defense, waterbenders flow from one to the other so seamlessly and fluidly that it's almost impossible to see when one ends and the other begins. They turn their defense into offense and vice-versa, often using their enemy's own force against them, redirecting force rather than always meeting it head-on.
Water is more reactive than proactive, often letting the enemy make the first move and then working based on that.
The inconstancy of water's raw power and availability is further emphasized by its connection to the moon and its phases. When it's full, a waterbender's power reaches its zenith, and a sufficiently powerful and skilled one might learn the dark and eerie technique of bloodbending, manipulating the water inside the human body to control people like living puppets (or worse, if they're that vicious or desperate).
Waterbending is also famous for its healing techniques, both physical and spiritual. This may or may not lend itself to a nurturing, caring nature.
If you got this result, be proud of your versatility, wisdom and willingness to adapt to whatever adversity you find yourself in.
Earthbending
Earthbending
Earth is a stubborn, rigid and solid element, and the same can be said about most of its benders. Rocks, sand, metal, lava or crystals, everything earthy is within your domain. Powerful and imposing, implaccable and tanky, earthbenders defend themselves with massive walls of rock, and respond with even greater force. This does not necessarily mean it's a "brute force" type of element (although many of its less prominent users certainly use it that way). Earthbending reaches its full potential well following the principle of "waiting and listening".
Patience, careful stepping and precise timing are key to be a true earthbending master. Endurance is your main attribute, to be able to wait your opponent out, let them expose themselves and allow you to move in for that opening in their guard.
While lacking the fluidity and seamless motions of a waterbender, earthbenders compensate with dominating force and pinpoint precision in accordance.
With sufficient skill and training, one can learn to sense the environment through vibrations in the earth, effectively gaining a wide 360º field of vision, which only amplifies and enforces the "wait and listen" philosophy. Anticipation of enemy movement and quick planning of an appropriate and devastating response is the awe-inspiring result.
If you got this result, be proud of your endurance, stability, raw power and patience.
Firebending
Firebending
Fire is the element of (raw) power. Fed by passion, determination and ambition, this single-track-minded element compensates its non-existent defense with a relentless and devastating offense. Refuge in audacity is the name of the game if you're a firebender. If you have your enemy on their toes, struggling to keep themselves from being burned to cinders, then you don't need to worry much about defending yourself, do you? Well, at least that's the case if you're a true master of the art, harnessing your passion and ambition in a way that it doesn't let you commit reckless mistakes, which was the undoing of many a young firebending recruit.
Fire might be the single least versatile of the elements, capable of only one thing: destruction, but it does it well. There's no pulling your punches, you shoot to kill. You only surround your fists in fire when you MEAN it, and you must embrace the consequences. For that is what fire represents, destruction of one thing so that a worthy end can be achieved. You must be committed, and you must be daring, to thrive with this intimidating and risky element.
The ultimate culmination of harnessing your passion and drive with this art is the technique of lightning bending. With a clear purpose, a calm mind, but a burning spirit, you can conjure a devastating lightning bolt that is nearly impossible to avoid or defend against.
Taking from waterbending principles, the technique of lightning redirection was developed, adding some much needed defense to an otherwise exclusively offensive martial art.
If you got this result, be proud of your indomitable will, your passion, your drive and your audacity.
Airbending
Airbending
Air is the element of freedom, of movement, of avoidance of conflict and to many, of spiritual growth. Following the pacifistic philosophy of the Air Nomads, airbending is often non-aggressive, focusing more on blinding speed, agility and evasive maneuvers, whether to escape battles or let enemies wear themselves out so that diplomacy can be attempted. When it fails, though, swift and wide blasts of wind are sure to send enemies flying, their collision against walls and other obstacles being enough to incapacitate them non-lethally.
Despite its predominantly peaceful philosophy, airbending CAN be used viciously in the hands of someone willing to go that far. Air can be pressurized into thin blades, and gravity can be a cruel mistress when you can toss enemies hundreds of meters into the air. More cruel, though, is the ability to asphixiate someone by creating an airless bubble around their head. (Predictably, only a villain has demonstrated this use of the power).
Circular motion is key to airbending, both for body movements that aid in seamless evasive maneuvers, and for awe-inspiring bending feats.
If you got this result, pride yourself on your patience, your merciful nature, your fun-loving, free-spirited demeanor and spiritial inclinations.
