We The Unicorns
Hi Hannah!
Hannah Witton
Hey guys!
We The Unicorns
What kicked off the process of your new book being produced?
Hannah Witton
It all kicked off when the publishers, Hachette Children's, got in touch with me around December 2015. I loved the idea of creating a comprehensive sex and relationships 101 book because there's nothing out there like it.
We The Unicorns
Is the book focused on your own experiences, or does it cover things more broadly?
Hannah Witton
It covers things more broadly. It is an educational and informative book on sex and relationships with a sprinkling of personal anecdotes where I thought sharing my own experiences might help people too.
We The Unicorns
If you had to sum up what the book is aiming to achieve in one sentence, what would it be?
Hannah Witton
I want the book to make people feel normal, comfortable, empowered and in control of their bodies.
We The Unicorns
Did you learn anything about yourself in the process of writing the book?
Hannah Witton
Yes, absolutely! I don't want to give anything away but there's some stuff that involves a frog and urine...
We The Unicorns
.... alrighty then. Moving swiftly on, Do the chapters have titles – and if so, what is the title of chapter 4?
Hannah Witton
Let me check! Chapter 4 is "LGBTQ+"
We The Unicorns
What is your favourite part of the book?
Hannah Witton
Can I say all of it? I'm so proud of the whole thing! But my favourite might be the section on bodies and anatomy because the vulva and penis sketches were done by me.
We The Unicorns
Nice. Broad question but, what kind of person is this book for?
Hannah Witton
This book is for any young adult who's looking to understand sex, their relationships with other people and their relationship with themselves. It's for someone who wants to learn but it's also for someone who maybe feels a bit lost and needs some support.
We The Unicorns
Is this a book people should be embarrassed about reading?
Hannah Witton
Of course not! I hope people feel proud to be reading it. You shouldn't feel embarrassed about learning about something as crucial as sex and relationships.
We The Unicorns
When and where can people get their hands on the book?
Hannah Witton
Doing It comes out on 6th April and it's available for pre-order now on Amazon and Book Depository (BD has free worldwide shipping!)
We The Unicorns
Wonderful. Great to talk to you, Hannah!
Hannah Witton
Likewise!
