Nick Bottom is a weaver by trade. He's fairly egocentric, thinking mostly of himself, and doesn't recognize how bad an actor he really is. His inability to see himself for who he is means he doesn't realize Titania has fallen in love with him or that Puck has turned his head into that of an ass.

Oberon is kind of the Faeries is consort to Titania. He and his wife fight over a changeling baby that Oberon wants to raise as his henchmen. Oberon poisons Titania to cause her to fall in love with the first thing she sees.
Lysander
Lysander
Lysander is all about love. He is in love with Hermia at first but later loves Helena and then returns to loving Hermia. He can't marry Hermia because her father won't permit it and they run away together into the forest - but it's not easy as magic interferes.

Titania is queen of the Faeries. She's married to Oberon, but falls in love with Bottom. She quarrels with her husband over a changeling child. This feud fuels much of what happens, even her falling in love with an egomaniac who has the head of an ass.
Hermia

Hermia is Lysander's lover. She's self-conscious about her height and runs away with her father in defiance of his orders not to marry Lysander. By defying her father, she could be put to death or sent to a convent. She's bound to stay with her love, but it's not easy.
Helena
Helena
Helena is the rejected lover of Demetrius and Hermia's best friend. She tries to scheme back to win Demetrius's love from Hermia. Most enthralled by the idea of love, she says, “Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind.”
Puck
Puck
Puck is Oberon's jester. Oberon is kind of the faeries. Mischievous and quick-witted, Puck uses magic to set the play's events in motion. He's both good-hearted and capable of cruel tricks.
Demetrius
Demetrius
Demetrius claims to love, but really only does so to win the support of the dukes. He's annoyed by the woman who pursues his heart and tries to win the heart of another, who he truly doesn't love. Eventually, magic finds its way into his hear.
